So I’ve been watching/rewatching a lot of documentaries while poking around the house the last week or so, and I got the idea of a newly “together” Bucky (I’ve been camped out on AO3, alwight? :P) getting caught by some magic or whatnot and being sent back to 1580 and dumped onto the gardens of Whitehall Palace in October, and promptly discovered and hauled in to be interrogated.
Elizabeth is more open than many of her predecessors to the fantastic, with Drake newly returned from yet another voyage around the world on the Golden Hind, and Bucky’s grudgingly imparted story of being a warrior from the future was supported by his amazing arm. Elizabeth takes him in, and he quickly becomes a bodyguard/confidant for the aging queen. After several years had passed, Bucky came to the realization that no one was coming for him, and he decided that all he could do was settle in and do what he wanted to do. So he stayed with Elizabeth until her death, where he was passed to James, almost like an inheritance.
And so he went, passed from one ruler to another, getting along with some, not so much with others, barely aging over the centuries, looking perhaps ten years older by the 1900s then he had appeared in 1580. By the time of the arrival of the 20th century, people have begun to suspect, through the invention of photography, that “Lord Barnes” was not a long existing line of father to son, but something else altogether unknown. Bucky had at first tried to stick to what he knew of history, afraid to mess with anything, but had largely given up. Things had been tweaked here and there over the centuries, and after confirming that there was yet another Bucky and Steve running around Western Europe, he made the decision to, if not rescue his younger self from falling from that train, but to save him from Hydra, and do his best to weaken them himself…
Yeah, it’s rather long winded, and features an incredibly increased lifespan as a side feature. :P In what is probably the first drawing I’ve more or less finished this year, I felt like doodling it. :)
So ends this incredibly long post. :D Hope you enjoyed!
